This project is sponsored by Epping Forest DC, The Tree Council, The Guardian newspaper, Essex Biodiversity and The Local Heritage Initiative.
One of the 50 winning nominations, the Cedar Lebanon at Lambourne church, Essex.
Most of the parishes in the district have managed to produce winning entries and the enthusiasm this project has generated has created a lasting testament to the unique range of varieties and of the number of veteran trees that grow in the Epping district.
A benefit of this project has meant that the Woodland Trust and The Tree Council have all shown a great interest in the trees and importance of this web site. The search is now on for more veteran trees, it is estimated that there may be over 6,000 trees aged over 250 years growing in this district. Preserving and protecting these trees for the future generations and our environment is vital.
