The Veteran Tree Hunt Gains MomentumThe Favourite Trees project having received a massive boost with a new £40k grant awarded by Greenarc has now recorded over 2,000 veteran trees. The hunt for these old and unique trees continues with many more to be discovered. The GreenArc funding has gone towards the systematic and complete surveying of six parishes in the district. The parishes chosen were Roydon, Epping Upland, Theydon Bois, Lambourne, Chigwell and Stapleford Abbotts. With another 24 parishes in the district there are still many trees to add to this site. Each parish so far has been carefully surveyed with all its veteran trees photographed and recorded on this website. The data will also go nationally to our partners the Woodland Trust via the Ancient Tree Hunt. As well as funding survey work, the grant also enabled us to run an educational outreach project with local schools focusing on art, photography and ancient tree recording. See schools... Lastly the grant also allowed us to produce a book of the favourite trees project and the veteran tree hunt. See Favourite Trees book... |
| The GreenArc book of Favourite Trees This new book has been produced as part of the GreenArc project and contains 140 pages of facts and photographs of some of the trees to be found in the Epping Forest district. |
GreenArc Schools Project The school project was a great success and will hopefully lead to a greater relationship with EFDC and local schools. |
Local Nature Reserves There are nine LNR's in the Epping Forest District. These contain an abundance of different tree species and wildlife. |
